The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) unveiled an action plan to intensify economic cooperation between Manila and Beijing, specifically targeting a significant boost to Philippine exports and tourism.
The move follows a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who tasked the business group to “bridge for international partnership,” particularly with China. FFCCCII President Victor Lim met with the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador Jing Quan to present the agenda.
Marcos had earlier urged the FFCCCII to help “deepen our international partnerships... with China" to secure “better trade, greater investments, and enhanced collaboration.”
The FFCCCII’s plan focuses on creating a more balanced and mutually beneficial economic exchange to tackle the Philippines’ substantial trade deficit with China by unlocking new market access for local goods and services.
Key initiatives announced include an Export Expansion drive to actively promote Philippine products and encourage local entrepreneurs to participate in major Chinese trade events, such as the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai and the China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning.
For a Tourism Boost, the FFCCCII plans to tap China’s massive outbound tourism market, promoting the Philippines as a premier destination through enhanced cultural exchange efforts aimed at increasing Chinese tourist arrivals.
The federation is also committed to MSME Empowerment, championing micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises as vital drivers of inclusive economic growth, aligning with a key Marcos administration priority.
In a move to cement its role in regional architecture, the FFCCCII formally pledged to host the 2026 ASEAN Chinese Business Leaders Summit in Manila in October 2026. The event will commemorate the fifth anniversary of the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, following the inaugural gathering in Kuala Lumpur.
The push for stronger business ties comes as the Philippines prepares to host the 2026 ASEAN Summit. The FFCCCII's dialogue underscores a consensus to sustain positive momentum in the complex Philippines-China relationship, even as global protectionist trends highlight the critical need for robust regional trade.
