The Department of Tourism (DOT) is reinforcing the Philippines’ reputation as a long-term “home-for-life” for retirees after the country was recognized as Asia’s Best Retirement Destination at the 11th TripZilla Excellence Awards.
DOT Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco said the recognition underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening retirement tourism as a key pillar of the country’s tourism portfolio.
“This award affirms what the global community increasingly sees—the Philippines is not only a beautiful place to visit, but a place to call home,” Frasco said.
Retirees are drawn not only by the country’s destinations but also by a culture deeply rooted in care, hospitality, and compassion.
The recognition also calls for enhanced programs and services to ensure dignity, comfort, and well-being for those choosing to spend their later years in the country.
The DOT continues to work closely with the Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA) to strengthen the competitiveness and global appeal of the country’s retirement offerings.
The Philippines stands out for its welcoming communities, English-speaking population, favorable climate, and internationally recognized healthcare facilities, making it an ideal choice for foreign retirees and returning Overseas Filipinos seeking long-term comfort and meaningful connection.
The DOT and PRA have been enhancing the Special Resident Retiree’s Visa (SRRV) program, a flagship incentive encouraging foreign nationals and returning Overseas Filipinos to retire in the country.
These efforts aim to make retirement in the Philippines seamless, secure, and attractive to global retirees.
PRA General Manager Roberto Zozobrado said the agency launched its “WE CARE” campaign—We Create an Amazing Retirement Experience—to expand the country’s share of the global retirement market.
“The Philippines offers something truly rare—retirement that feels like coming home,” Zozobrado said, emphasizing that retirees are welcomed, supported, and embraced as members of local communities.
Currently, more than 83,000 SRRV holders are living in the Philippines, enjoying the program and integrating into local communities.
