ILOILO CITY – A 19-percent decrease in cases of violence against women (VAW) was recorded in Western Visayas as the region marked the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women.
The Police Regional Office-6 said 1,487 VAW cases were recorded from Jan. 1 to Nov. 30, 2025.
On the other hand, the PRO-6 Women and Children Protection Desk (RWCPD-6) recorded 1,846 VAW cases in the same period last year in the region consisting of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo provinces as well as the regional capital of Iloilo City.
RWCPD-6 chief Police Capt. Jolly Canindo attributed the decline of VAW cases to stronger information campaign, school-based advocacy, and community engagement.
The RWCPD-6 also credited stronger coordination with other government agencies, including the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Bureau of Jail and Management Penology (BJMP), and various non-government organizations (NGOs).
The PRO-6 lauded the drop in VAW cases.
“This achievement reflects our dedication to protecting women and children. Let us remain steadfast in protecting them,” said PRO-6 chief Police Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan in a statement.
