UnionBank launches first touchless payroll account opening solution
Aboitiz-led Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank) has launched the country’s first payroll account opening solution that requires no more manual intervention, cutting turnaround time to 24 hours from the industry norm of two weeks.
“With Zero-Touch Onboarding, we’ve reimagined one of the most time-consuming parts of HR [human resources] operations. We’re giving companies back valuable time while making banking simpler and more seamless for their employees,” said UnionBank Senior Vice President and Deputy Head of Transaction Banking Center Erika Denise Dizon-Go.

For many companies, payroll account opening has long been a source of frustration—slow, manual, and resource-heavy. HR and operations teams often spend days collecting documents, screening applicants, and coordinating with banks.
With UnionBank’s Zero-Touch Onboarding, the entire onboarding process is streamlined for the employer, as well as their employees, agents, and payees—cutting turnaround time from the industry norm of up to two weeks to less than 24 hours.
This results in faster, hassle-free account opening, allowing for salary crediting a day after the employee’s completion of the digital account opening process.
Employees can open accounts using their mobile phones by scanning a QR code generated through The Portal. Once scanned, they complete the process in minutes via UnionBank Online app—no paperwork, no back-and-forth, no waiting.
For HR, it’s totally zero-touch as they no longer need to process each employee document because the bank takes care of everything. Once the accounts are open, the HR officer will see the employees’ account numbers on The Portal.
