House Committee on Public Works and Highways Chairman Surigao del Sur 1st district Rep. Romeo Momo slammed on Friday, Dec. 12 the "political vendetta" that he claimed was behind the conflict of interest allegations as far as his link to a construction company was concerned.
"I would like to make it clear that there is no conflict of interest in my work as Surigao del Sur first district representative. Such imputation of using public office for personal gain is not true. Wala po itong katotohanan (There is no truth to this)," Momo said in a statement.
Momo was referring to his connection to Surigao La Suerte Corp.
"I had already, in fact, divested from the Surigao La Suerte Corp. a long time ago. I’m no longer part of this company," he clarified.
"The so-called conflict of interest is nothing more than a desperate attempt to link me to a supposed corruption scandal. This is clearly a political vendetta to tarnish my name and I will not let it pass unchallenged," Momo said.
"I strongly urge the public, lalo na ang mga kababayan ko sa unang distrito ng Surigao del Sur (especially my constituents in the first district of Surigao del Sur), that these baseless complaints are all political motivated, pakana lang po ito ng mga kalaban ko sa politika (this was merely hatched by my rivals in politics)," he further said.
Momo vowed: "Sasagutin ko po ito, sasagutin ito ng aming pamilya, sa tamang forum at panahon (I will answer this, so will my family, at the proper time and forum)."
The Mindanaoan said that he has 'always been guided by the highest standards of integrity and principle enshrined in the Constitution".
"I will never betray the people of Surigao del Sur, whom I have served, and shall continue to serve, with utmost responsibility and accountability," he stressed.
