ILOILO CITY – Water sports activities at world-famous Boracay Island were temporarily suspended for four hours Thursday as Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) ministers held a sunset cruise.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) halted tourist activities such as island hopping, scuba diving, helmet diving, and paraw sailing on the famous white beach of the resort island in Malay town from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
PCG-Aklan coordinated with the Aklan provincial government and the Malay local government in implementing the temporary halt to pave the way for the safe cruise of the ASEAN ministers and other delegates.
Economic ministers and other delegates from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam are currently in Boracay for the Senior Economic Officials’ Meeting (SEOM) until Dec. 13.
Vessels were told to keep a safe distance from the area.
