The gunman in the fatal shooting of a Manila Police District (MPD) policeman was finally arrested by members of the Las Piñas City Police in Imus, Cavite.
Las Piñas Police Chief Col. Sandro Tafalla identified the suspect as Sansui, 23, of Dasmarinas, Cavite. He was arrested along General Castaneda Street in Poblacion 3A, Imus, Cavite.
Tafalla said officers from the Las Piñas City Police Warrant and Subpoena Section, Station Intelligence Section, and Station Drug Enforcement Unit initially coordinated with the Imus City Component Police Station for the service of a warrant of arrest against the suspect for grave threats and violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act.
The suspect yielded a .9mm pistol and 15 rounds of live ammunition after his arrest
During his inquest proceedings, Sansui was discovered as the gunman in the shooting of Staff Sgt. Jomar Caliguiran, who was assigned at the Tactical Operations Center of the MPD last Aug. 23.
Caliguiran was shot to death by the suspect along Taft Avenue corner Primero de Mayo Street in Pasay City.
According to the report of the Pasay City Police, Sansui was on board a motorcycle driven by his cohort, identified as Bayona, and tried to rob the victim.
Caliguiran was alerted to the motive of the suspects, prompting him to draw out his firearm at them, which led to a brief exchange of gunfire between the three.
The victim was shot by Sansui and subsequently died of his wounds.
Bayona was arrested during a follow-up operation by members of the Pasay City Police after he was identified by a witness driving the motorcycle.
The Pasay City Police filed charges of robbery with homicide, attempted homicide, and frustrated homicide against Sansui and Bayona at the Pasay City Prosecutors' Office.
