The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Friday, Oct. 31, reported a brief ash emission at the summit crater of Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island.
According to the agency, the ash emission occurred between 6:30 a.m. and 6:37 a.m.
It produced grayish plumes that rose about 250 meters above the crater before drifting northwest, as recorded by the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory in Canlaon City.
Phivolcs said the volcano remains under Alert Level 2, indicating “increased unrest” and the possibility of further phreatic or steam-driven eruptions.
It reminded the public that entry into the four-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is strictly prohibited due to the risk of sudden explosions and hazardous volcanic activity.
