Andres Muhlach and Astine Olviga
When I say that Filipino fandoms are the most generous and loyal in the world, I say it not just as a columnist but as a personal witness. Yes, yours truly did a fun little cameo as the school principal in the upcoming romantic movie of Ashtine Olviga and Andres Muhlach entitled "Minamahal: 100 Bulaklak Para Kay Luna. What I saw on set melted my heart.
Although Viva Films would provide lunch and dinner for their cast and crew, every shooting day, a different Ashtine fandom group volunteered to cater lunch and dinner for the cast and crew — and I mean, catered meals, Starbucks coffee, ice cream, cakes, and pancit! Imagine being served sinigang na baboy one day, Korean fried chicken the next, and leche flan to cap it off. This wasn’t just fan service; this was fan love in action.
I was able to interview Ashtine and Andres. Both of them took turns mentioning the fandoms they would like to thank, "We would like to thank the support of our fandoms, AshDres Official, AshDres Dreamers, Amigas of AshDres, Ashlings, AshDres Voting Team, AshDres Trendsetters, Keepers, and AshDres Squad, AshDres International (including ASHDRES LATINAS!), AshDres After Hours, ASHTINE Shines, and ASHTINE Admirers.
If we forgot a fandom, please forgive us because Direk is now calling us to shoot. And just like that, my interview was over. I was intrigued by these fandoms, so I researched them on the net. And here is what I have gathered:
Each fandom has its own personality. The Dreamers are your tireless voting warriors, the Trendsetters make sure #AshDres is always on top of X (Twitter), and the Amigas are the queens of pasabog surprises and gift drops. The “Shines” (Ashtine’s solo fandom) have been with Ashtine since her P-pop days, and the Keepers make sure there is always a presence in regional screenings and provincial events.
This is the kind of fan culture we should celebrate: one that uplifts, supports, and feeds — literally — the artists they adore. I am sure they will all be present in the upcoming premiere this Sept. 22, Monday at SM Megamall, Cinema 2 and 3 at 7 p.m.
"Minamahal: 100 Bulaklak Para Kay Luna" marks the first big-screen collaboration of Andres and Ashtine, who captured audiences’ hearts in the hit youth series Ang Mutya ng Section E. Directed and written by Jason Paul Laxamana, the film promises a sweeping romantic drama with a touch of nostalgia and youthful energy.
The story revolves around Luna (Ashtine), a young woman who receives 100 flowers over 100 days from an anonymous admirer — only to discover that love, sacrifice, and destiny are far more complicated than she imagined. Andres plays Joaquin, the mysterious man behind the gesture, whose own past holds the key to Luna’s future happiness.
Mark your calendars: the film will be released in Philippine cinemas on Sept. 24.
