Policeman killed, 2 bystanders injured in Pasay shooting incident
A policeman assigned to the Manila Police District (MPD)-Tactical Operations Center (TOC) was shot to death while two bystanders were injured by a riding-in-tandem in Pasay City on Saturday night, August 23.
Pasay City Police Chief Col. Joselito De Sesto said the victim was identified as Staff Sgt. Jomar Caliguiran, 39. He died while undergoing treatment at the Pasay City General Hospital due to multiple gunshot wounds.
Hit by stray bullets during the exchange of fire between Caliguiran and the two suspects were Aljon, 31, and Melchor, 64. They were both rushed to the Manila Adventist Medical Center for treatment.
He said the incident happened at around 8:00 p.m. along Taft Avenue corner Primero de Mayo St., Barangay 90, Pasay City.
A street sweeper claimed the victim was seated on his motorcycle in front of Meijiale Advertising when the two men on board a silver motorcycle arrived.
De Sesto said one of the suspects, wearing a black helmet and black jacket and armed with an unknown caliber, alighted from the motorcycle and shot the victim.
He said the victim was still able to draw his issued firearm and return fire but the suspects were able to flee on board their motorcycle.
De Sesto said a Station Special Investigation team was created to lead the investigation and arrest the suspects behind the killing.
