According to authorities, the trailer truck, which was carrying a backhoe, lost control and slammed into a 6-wheeler truck.
The impact caused the 6-wheeler to crash into an SUV, which then collided with an elf truck.
The driver of the trailer truck told the Manila Police District that he had traveled from Laguna and was en route to Manila when he suddenly felt the vehicle malfunction.
He claimed the truck’s airbrake system failed, making it impossible to stop in time.
Among the injured was a six-year-old girl on board the elf truck. She was rushed to the hospital along with several others.
The extent of her injuries has yet to be disclosed.
Tow trucks were dispatched to the scene to remove the wrecked vehicles.
As of press time, three of the four involved vehicles have been cleared, helping to ease the traffic congestion in the area.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, with the reported brake failure being considered as the primary cause of the crash.
