LPA seen to exit PAR soon; tropical storm may enter by August 11 — PAGASA
PAGASA
The low-pressure area (LPA) that crossed Northern Luzon on Thursday, Aug. 7, is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) within the next few hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, Aug. 8.
PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin de la Cruz-Galicia said the LPA is located 125 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur, as of 3 a.m.
It may develop into a tropical cyclone as it moves further away from land, but is no longer expected to affect any part of the country, she added.
Approaching storm
PAGASA is also monitoring a tropical storm with the international name “Podul.”
As of 3 a.m., it is located 2,580 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon, outside the PAR.
According to de la Cruz-Galicia, the storm is moving west-northwest at 15 kilometers per hour and may enter the PAR by Aug. 10 or 11.
Once inside the PAR, it will be locally called “Fabian.”
She added that the storm may intensify into a typhoon before or shortly after entering the PAR.
Although the weather system remains far from the Philippine landmass, de la Cruz-Galicia warned it could affect extreme Northern Luzon in the coming days.
She advised the public to monitor official weather updates and advisories regarding the storm.
‘Habagat’ persists
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon or “habagat” continues to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Visayas, Bicol Region, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao Region, and Quezon.
Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and the rest of Mindanao may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated monsoon rain showers or thunderstorms.
The rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
