Another faction in the House of Representatives will seek a reversal of the Supreme Court's (SC) earlier declaration that the impeachment complaint lodged against Vice President Sara Duterte was unconstitutional.
Kabataan Party-list Rep. Renee Co on Thursday, Aug. 7, bared the militant Makabayan bloc's intention to file a motion of reconsideration (MR) on the high court's decision following Senate's vote to archive the impeachment complaint.
Co, in a press conference, said Kabataan and ACT Teachers Party-list will file their MR electronically on Thursday, and then submit a hard copy of it before the SC on Friday.
It will have been the third MR to come from the House with regards to SC's controversial July 25 decision.
On Aug. 1, a groul led by Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña filed the first MR before the SC.
Then on Aug. 4, the House of Representatives, through the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG), filed the second MR, with House Speaker Martin Romualdez describing the action as not a defiance or disrespect but "an exercise in constitutional stewardship".
"Wine-welcome din namin lahat ng mga gustong mag-intervene, gustong makita kung saan na nga ba 'tong pera natin, at anong nangyari sa proseso to hold accountable yung nagfe-face ng ganitong klase ng charges (We welcome those who want to intervene, those who also want to know where did the public funds went, and what happened to the process of holding people with these charges accountable)," Co said on the motions earlier filed.
'Senduwag'
Meanwhile, Co described as "senduwag"—a portmanteau of senator and duwag (coward)—those who voted to archive the impeachment case.
With the Senate’s vote Wednesday night, the rookie congresswman reckoned that the Filipino people lost in its fight to seek accountability for the unexplained spending of P612.5-million confidential funds.
"Antabayanan natin yung Korte Suprema sa anong sasabihin nila (Let's wait for the answer of the Supreme Court)," she said.
