8 of 10 bodies found in illegal funeral home in Manila identified

Eight out of 10 bodies recovered from an illegal funeral home in Manila have been identified, according to Manila Police District (MPD) Homicide Section.
The establishment was recently shut down due to the improper storage and handling of human remains.

MPD Homicide Section Chief Dennis Turla, seven of the 10 bodies were homeless.
Among the dead were three senior citizens and one minor.
One of the deceased was a Japanese national who had been found dead inside a condominium unit.
Three of the bodies were already claimed by the family, while the other seven are currently being held at the Manila North Cemetery.
Cemetery officials said they will wait one week before proceeding with the burial of the unclaimed bodies.
Meanwhile, the Manila Department of Social Welfare (DSW) reminded the public of the city’s free funeral service program, which aims to assist families in need.
The investigation into the funeral home’s operations is ongoing, as authorities work to determine how the facility acquired the bodies.
