Two men were arrested by operatives of the Manila Police District (MPD) after they allegedly stole a cellphone from a restaurant along Alvarado Street in Binondo, Manila.
In a report released by the MPD Station 11, the suspects were identified by their aliases “Penpen,” 30, reportedly a member of the BCJ Gang based in Kagitingan Street, Tondo, and “Ry,” 45, allegedly affiliated with the Sputnik Gang from Esmeralda Street, Tondo.
Initial investigation showed that the incident occurred at around 5 p.m. when the two suspects entered the restaurant.
According to police, Ry acted as a lookout while Penpen took the victim’s cellphone from a table.
The victim, a waitress at the establishment, sought assistance from the barangay and restaurant management, who immediately coordinated with authorities from MPD Station 11.
Responding police officers reviewed CCTV footage from inside and outside the restaurant, which helped them identify and trace the suspects’ movements.
The suspects were located and arrested shortly after, along the intersection of Kagitingan and Esmeralda Streets in Tondo.
Police said the stolen cellphone was recovered from Ry during the arrest.
Both suspects are now under police custody and have undergone inquest proceedings for theft.
