- Operatives of the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group arrested the alleged scammer in an entrapment operation in Taguig City.
The Highway Patrol Group of the Philippine National Police (PNP-HPG) warned motor vehicle owners against a money-making modus involving fake application and activation to a ride-hailing company following the arrest of an alleged scammer in an operation in Taguig City.
HPG director Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta said those interested to earn money using their private vehicles could directly contact the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) or legitimate Transportation Network Company to apply and inquire on the proper procedure.
“We should be very careful and vigilant against any modus, especially if it involves your hard-earned money,” said Matta.
HPG spokesperson Nadame Malang said the operation that led to the arrest of the suspect stemmed from the complaint of a motor vehicle owner who shelled out thousands of pesos for the activation of the Transportation Network Vehicle System (TNVS).
The victim told the HPG investigators that he initially paid P15,000 for the activation and franchise payment, and after one or two weeks, the suspect demanded P35,000 for the reactivation of the TNVS account.
This prompted the victim to seek the assistance of the HPG and on June 9, an entrapment occurred in Barangay Cembo in Taguig City which resulted in the arrest of the suspect.
Seized from the suspect were the marked money and a cellular phone.
Malang said they are now coordinating with the concerned ride-hailing company for the conduct of investigation as the suspect was namedropping his supposed contacts inside the company.
He said the investigation will also focus on how the suspect was able to have access to the activation system of the app-based ride-hailing company.
