Ride-hailing app driver escapes robbery attempt, 2 arrested in Tondo

 A ride-hailing app driver escaped a robbery attempt in Tondo, Manila, on Tuesday, June 10, after calling for help from patrolling police officers.

The suspects, both residents of Balut, Tondo and members of the Commando Gang, were arrested.

The incident occurred at around 2:10 a.m. along Honorio Lopez Boulevard (southbound lane) in Barangay 129, Tondo.

According to the police report, the victim, identified as Florence Mike Santos, 33, was driving his blue Toyota Vios when he picked up two passengers from Nepa Street, Barangay 131, Balut, Tondo.

As they neared Honorio Lopez Boulevard, the passengers identified as Ronnie Listana, 34, and Fredie Boy Molera, 22, allegedly declared a hold-up and forcibly took P500 from the victim's pants' pocket while he was driving.

The victim stated that he spotted a group of police officers conducting a routine patrol in the area.

He immediately stopped the vehicle, jumped out, and shouted, “Sir, sir, may holdaper sa loob ng sasakyan ko (There's a robber inside my car),” while pointing at the suspects inside the vehicle.

Responding officers rushed to the scene.

One of the suspects, Listana, who was seated in the backseat, attempted to flee.
Police chased him, and during the pursuit, Listana reportedly drew a firearm and aimed at one of the officers identified as Pat. Christian Diaz.
However, the weapon did not fire, thus, allowing officers to subdue and arrest him.

The suspects were arrested and brought to the Gat Andres Bonifacio Medical Center for a mandatory medical examination.

Charges for Robbery (Article 293) and Direct Assault (Article 148) are being prepared for inquest proceedings before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.
