- Blackwater pulled away in the second half to deny Terrafirma a graceful exit in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup, and perhaps, in its 11-year stint in the big league with a 97-82 victory at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Sunday, June 8.
The Bossing’s top players in Christian David and Sedrick Barefield picked up the mantle from the fiery first half performance of Richard Escoto to lead the team to a double-digit advantage which they managed to protect until the final horn.
Escoto poured all of his 21 points in the first half while David and Barefield, who combined for 15 points in the final frame, finished with 19 and 12, respectively.
David actually finished with a double-double after also collecting 12 rebounds while Barefield also dished out eight assists.
The Bossing picked up their second win in 10 games while the Dyip ended the conference, and maybe even their stint in the PBA, with a 1-10 record. For the season, Terrafirma only won three games in total – one each in the Governors’ Cup and Commissioner’s Cup
Louie Sangalang, just like how he’s been for the Dyip all-season long, was a bright spot with 24 points to leave quite an impression especially with the Terrafirma franchise facing uncertainty when it comes to its future in the league.
Terrafirma has put its franchise for sale and it is currently in talks with the Zamboanga Valientes for a possible purchase.
Stanley Pringle and Brent Paraiso had 12 apiece while Terrence Romeo, who still returned from injury, added 10.
