The Bolts couldn’t keep their hold on a double-digit spread early in the contest and then simply lost their steam against the host squad which rode on the hot hands of Shabab Al Ahli import Deshawndre Washington.

Washington torched Meralco with 40 points as he spearheaded a fourth quarter assault from Shabab Al Ahli where it limited the Bolts to just 13 points while firing 22 points.

That pivotal fourth quarter stand allowed Shabab Al Ahli to pull away for good after Meralco managed to keep in step, only trailing by one, 72-73, late in the third frame.

Meralco imports led the way for the PBA representative with Jordon Varnado firing 19 points and eight rebounds.

Glynn Watson also had 19 markers, and Chris Newsome was the best local scorer with 15 but had to watch from the bench in the last three minutes after fouling out of the contest.

Jermaine Love had 22 to provide support to Washington.

“(Al Ahl) deserved to win. They really played well offensively. They gave us a lot of problems. They shot the ball extremely well from the three-point line. Did well in transition as well, which was partially was our fault as well,” said Meralco active consultant Nenad Vucinic.

The Bolts now face a must-win game against Japan B.League champion Utsunomiya Brex on Sunday to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot.
