Around 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall is expected in several parts of the country from Friday, June 6, through Monday, June 9, due to the combined effects of a low pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon or habagat, state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
In Weather Advisory No. 3 issued at 5 p.m. Friday, PAGASA warned that rainfall may be heavier in elevated or mountainous areas and could worsen conditions in provinces already soaked by earlier rains.
“Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, impacts in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall,” the agency said.
From Friday until Saturday afternoon, the bureau said rainfall of up to 100 mm is expected in Antique, Iloilo, Occidental Mindoro, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate, Sorsogon, Palawan, Batangas, Quezon, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar.
From Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, similar rainfall totals are forecast in the same areas, with Zambales, Bataan, and Cavite added to the list.
Between Sunday afternoon and Monday afternoon, June 9, rain is expected in Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Romblon, Aklan, Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Zamboanga del Norte.
PAGASA said local government units and disaster risk reduction and management offices should take precautions, especially in flood- and landslide-prone areas.
Residents are also advised to monitor localized bulletins from PAGASA’s regional offices, which may issue Heavy Rainfall Warnings and Thunderstorm Advisories as conditions change.
