Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. paid tribute to all Muslim personnel in the defense department and its bureau, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), for their contributions to nation-building as the Muslim community commemorated Eid al-Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice on Friday, June 6.
In a statement, Teodoro extended his greetings to the Muslim community on the blessed occasion of Eid al-Adha, which commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering obedience and faith as he willingly followed Allah’s command even if it meant sacrificing his own son.
“Eid al-Adha reminds us of the enduring values of faith, sacrifice, and service to others. It calls us to reflect, give generously, and strengthen our ties with family and community,” Teodoro said.
The defense chief said the contributions of Muslim personnel in the DND and the Armed Forces of the Philippines are “invaluable”.
“Your commitment to our sovereignty, peace, and security is an inspiration to all. May this Eid bring you and your families peace, joy, and countless blessings,” he said.
Meanwhile, Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said Eid al-Adha is an important occasion that shows Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to make sacrifices to achieve a higher purpose.
“May the great Prophet serve as an example not only to the members of the Muslim faith but to all Filipinos that we must not be afraid to go beyond our comfort zones, reach out, and help those who are most in need,” he said.
The presidential peace adviser noted that although Filipinos are composed of different faiths, they are bound by the principles of selflessness, compassion, and empathy.
“Let us remember that for every act of kindness, compassion, and generosity that we do, we are building the foundations where genuine and long-lasting peace can firmly take root and flourish,” Galvez said.
June 6 was declared a regular nationwide holiday by Malacañang through Proclamation 911 in observance of Eid al-Adha.
