Romeo, who is still recovering from a knee injury that sidelined him this conference, said he is looking through his options though he would prioritize talking with PBA teams which need his services.
The three-time scoring champion is on an expiring contract with the Terrafirma Dyip and it would only last until August which in turn would allow him to be a free agent.
“Main priority ko siyempre is PBA kasi ang laki ng utang ko sa liga, dyan ako nagstart eh. So kahit dati na may times na nag offer sa akin, nag-stay ako sa PBA,” said Romeo on Sunday, June 1, after he was named as the latest ambassador of the online casino platform ABCVIP.
Through the past years, Korea and Japan have been the top destinations for Filipino players but the luxury of playing abroad as well as the potential big sum of money he could get cannot easily sway Romeo away from the PBA.
And if it turns out that no team is really willing to give him a chance in the PBA, then that’s the only time he would entertain the thought of playing overseas.
“Meron talagang offer overseas pero ang priority ko talaga gusto ko muna mag try dito sa atin sa PBA. Makipag usap kung mayroong interested, kung mayroon makaksundo, ‘yung makakatulong ako sa kanila, ‘yung mag titiwala sila sa akin,” he added.
There’s no any sense of doubt in Romeo that he still has plenty of gas left on his tank and that he could still bring up his old, deadly form that allowed him to win Finals MVP honors under the tutelage of head coach Leo Austria at San Miguel.
“Kailangan mo lang naman ng taong magtitiwala sa capability mo. Kung wala talaga from there, wala tayong magagawa, kailangan talagang humanap ng way kung san pwede maglaro kasi gusto ko pa maglaro. Kumbaga masyado pang maaga para mag stop,” he added.
