- Robert Bolick and Javee Mocon took turns as NLEX grounded Phoenix, 105-95, to stay in the hunt for the top seed in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday, June 1.
Bolick came out firing in the opening frame before Mocon finished what he had started to help the Road Warriors fend off a Fuel Masters side that was fighting for their tournament lives.
Bolick fired 15 of his 20 points inside the first 10 minutes while Mocon had 13 of his team-high 23 points in the final frame where NLEX slammed the door on Phoenix comeback.
JB Bahio had 15 points, Anthony Semerad added 14 while Xyrus Torres chipped in 13 for NLEX which improved to a 7-2 record.
Up only by five, 85-80, Mocon unloaded a personal 7-2 run to give NLEX a comfortable 92-82 spread midway through the final frame. Phoenix tried to mount a comeback behind the efforts of Jason Perkins but NLEX simply had answers to keep the Fuel Masters at bay until the final horn.
Perkins led Phoenix with 28 points but were not enough to keep his team’s playoff hopes after dropping to a 2-7 record which formally eliminated the Fuel Masters from the race for the Top 8.
