Amateur Rianne Malixi debuts at the prestigious US Women’s Open Golf Championship with heavyweights Lydia Ko and Fil-Japanese Yuka Saso in the opening round on Thursday, May 29 (Friday, Philippine time) at the Erin Hills Golf Club in Wisconsin.

The 18-year-old Filipina golf sensation will be put to test as she tees off at the 10th hole with Ko and Saso at 7:40 a.m. (U.S. time) in her first tournament since March.

Malixi is expected to soak in the moment and make the most out of her debut at the majors, but it’s going to be a tough test with world No. 3 Ko and defending champion Saso in the fold.

Currently ranked No. 5 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, Malixi is physically ready for the challenge. Her last tournament was at the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship where she withdrew just after five holes due to a back strain. She also skipped the Augusta National Women’s Amateur in April.

She got in after victories in the 2024 US Women’s Amateur and the US Girls’ Juniors -- the only second player to do so in history.

Also seeing action is veteran Dottie Ardina, who tees off at 1:58 p.m. with amateur Aira Nagasawa and Frenchwoman Pauline Roussin-Bouchard.

This would be Ardina’s third US Open appearance where she got a ticket after joining a qualifying tournament.

It was only Ardina’s second tournament this season after missing the cut at the Mayakoba Open in Mexico last week.

The 23-year-old Saso, who now represents Japan, guns for her third title here after first winning it in 2021.

The world No. 35 has yet to win a title this season, missing the cut in her last three tournaments: the Mizuho Americas Open, the Black Desert Championship and The Chevron Championship.

Her best performance so far was a joint 17th at th Honda LPGA in Thailand last February.
