Pasay City achieves highest basic literacy rate among PH cities - PSA

- Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano vows to work even better on education after the city achieved the highest basic literacy rate among other cities in the country according to the Philippine Statistic Authority (PSA).
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) announced that Pasay City scored the highest basic literacy rate of 96.2 percent among the highly urbanized cities in the Philippines for the year 2024.
Based on PSA's 2024 Functional Literacy, Education and Mass Media Survey (FLEMMS) report, basic literacy is the ability of a person to read and write a simple message with understanding and to compute or perform basic mathematical operations.
According to the Pasay City government, the survey was conducted on around 96 of 100 individuals aged five years old and above in the city who can read, write, and compute.
It added the 2024 FLEMMS is the seventh in the series of literacy surveys in the country that started in 1989. It was conducted from September to October 2024.
Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano said the survey results showed that the city government truly values the quality ofeducation of its youth, which is part of her top priorities under her HELP (Health and Housing, Education, Economic Growth, Environment, Livelihood and Lifestyle, and Peace and Order, Pamilya (family) and Palengke (market) agenda.
