Outgoing lawmakers from the Makabayan bloc on Monday, May 26, filed a resolution urging House lawmakers to investigate the alleged "anomalous" 2025 mid-term elections.
Makabayan solons seek probe into 'anomalous' mid-term elections
Kabataan Party-list Rep. Raoul Manuel, Gabriela Women's Party Rep. Arlene Brosas, and ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro filed House Resolution (HR) No. 2291 to probe the various anomalies reported by poll watchdog Kontra Daya, Vote Report PH, National Citizens' Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL), and the Computer Professionals Union.
"The 2025 National and Local Midterm Elections was plagued with various issues—ranging from major technical anomalies to massive voter disenfranchisement—as reported by election watchdog groups and pro-people technology advocates," the militant solons said.
These included the alleged "previous international controversies" surrounding Miru Systems, Comelec's main supplier for the 2025 elections; the lack of voters' receipt issued to overseas Filipinos who voted abroad; as well as the "discrepancy" between the audited software version and the one that was actually used for the automated voting machines (ACMs).
The lawmakers, according to their resolution, also wanted to investigate the numerous reports of malfunctioning ACMs, paper jams, and ballots that were collected supposedly without confirmation of voters.
The alleged "overvotes", long queues, votes mismatch, duplication of votes, and red-tagging are also subjects for investigation under Makabayan's House resoltuion.
"Kabataan Party-list believes that an investigation should be pursued, and that all persons or agencies that are proven to be complicit must be held accountable for disenfranchising and invalidating the votes and democratic aspirations of millions of Filipino voters," they said.
