Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested a man accused of charging Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) applicants with a huge sum of money for an assured slot in an entrapment operation in Manila.
CIDG director Nicolas Torre III said the modus of the suspect is to offer services to PCG applicants for an assured slot in the recruitment process by claiming that he has strong influence and connections in the agency.
Based on the complaint, the suspect’s asking price is P350,000 per applicant.
CIDG operatives then mapped out an entrapment which resulted in the arrest of the suspect in a fast-food store at the corner of P. Campa Street and España Boulevard in Manila.
“With the arrest of the suspect, we prevented and solved future scam and fraud and saved the unsuspecting applicants from giving their family’s hard-earned money to the swindler,” said Torre.
He said the arrested suspect now faces violation of Article 315 (Estafa/Swindling) of the Revised Penal Code.
