Favour Onoh continues her basketball career on foreign soil after transferring from the University of the Philippines to the Oklahoma State University (OSU), the State U announced Wednesday, May 21.
The 19-year-old Nigerian believes the best path toward her WNBA dream is to suit up for a US NCAA team.
"I would not be able to have this kind of opportunity without UP and the skills I learned not just in basketball, but also in life," said Onoh.
"I believe OSU will allow me to develop more. Aside from giving good education just like UP, it will also give me a better opportunity to play professionally," she added.
The UAAP Season 86 Rookie of the Year averaged 11 points, 14.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 2.9 blocks, and 1.4 steals per contest in her debut year. Those numbers, alongside Louna Ozar’s effort, steered UP to its first semis appearance in 16 years as they finished with a 10-4 tally at third spot.
However, they succumbed to eventual champions and twice-to-beat holders University of Santo Tomas Tigresses in the semifinals.
Onoh was sidelined by a knee injury in Season 87, and her absence was felt drastically as UP missed the Final Four.
"I'm super excited to play in the NCAA because it will help me gain experience and knowledge. It's one step to my goal of playing professionally," Onoh continued.
