Rapper 'Slick One' arrested for gunrunning in Malabon buy-bust

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested a singer and rapper for local singing group Breezy Boys for allegedly selling loose firearms in a buy-bust operation in Malabon City.

CIDG director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said rapper Rovi, popularly known as Slick One, was collared with another suspect after they sold a .38 revolver to a police poseur buyer in Barangay Tonsuya on May 9.

Citing background information, Torre said suspect “Slick One” used to be popular on social media for his songs and rapping skills when he was still with the Breezy Boys group.

“Allegedly, he is now a delivery driver, who utilizes the job  in his gunrunning activities,” said Torre.

The other arrested suspect, on the  hand, is a sticker signage installer.

Torre said the two arrested suspects were members of the newly-identified gunrunning group operating in the northern part of Metro Manila.

“With this successful operation, we significantly prevented the possible utilization  of these criminal group members and firearms in harming the community,” said Torre as he lauded his men for the successful operation.

He said the arrested suspects were charged before the National Prosecution for violations of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act),  BP 881 (Omnibus Election Code) for unlawfully bearing and possessing loose firearms and aggravated by the election gun ban. 

Following the arrest of “Slick One’, Torre said they are now intensified the intelligence-gathering against some erring delivery riders for possible involvement in various illegal activities.

“Like these two arrested suspects,  some drivers  are  taking advantage of their delivery job, it became a vehicle of contrabands and illegal items,” said Torre.

“It has opened a big opportunity for crime, it’s alarming and must be stopped immediately,” he added.
