- The Nationalista Party's (NP) grand rally, which was held with mayoral candidate Carlo Aguilar's campaign for "Bagong Las Pinas" campaign, gained support in the final days before the May 12 midterm election.
The grand rally was held at The Tent in Vista Global South along C5 Extension in Las Piñas City and was attended by Nacionalista Party president Manny Villar; Sen. Cynthia A. Villar, who is running to represent the city’s lone congressional district; Sen. Mark Villar; Camille Villar, who is making her first bid for a Senate seat; vice mayoral bet Louie Bustamante and the full slate of councilor candidates from the city’s two districts.
The gathering underscored the support behind Tropang Villar and Aguilar’s candidacy as the city headed into the final stretch of the campaign season.
Speaking before the crowd, Aguilar reiterated his platform for a “Bagong Las Piñas” anchored on inclusive growth, accountable leadership, and people-centered programs.
He pledged to address long-standing challenges such as flooding, traffic, urban poverty, provision of jobs, and local economic development.
"I am humbled and inspired by the incredible turnout today," Aguilar said to the crowd.
The crowd responded with loud cheers - waving banners, chanting slogans, and expressing their unwavering support for Tropang Villar and Carlo Aguilar's leadership.
Aguilar outlined a clear agenda to modernize flood control systems, reform waste management practices, and equip barangays to respond more effectively to emergencies.
He was also a vocal critic of the ongoing Manila Bay reclamation projects, warning that they could worsen flooding and displace vulnerable coastal communities in Las Piñas and neighboring cities.
The mayoral candidate also committed to protect informal settlers through the expansion of the Community Mortgage Program, which enables organized communities to purchase and develop the land they occupy at affordable amortization rates.
“We will not allow demolitions without dignity,” Aguilar said. “We will pursue housing solutions that are humane, sustainable, and rooted in community.”
A key part of his social agenda is the proposed Local Pension Fund for Las Piñas’ estimated 60,000 senior citizens and expand educational scholarships, provide hazard pay for the city’s frontline workers, such as garbage collectors, and prioritize residents in job hiring.
