Gang member arrested for robbery, illegal possession of firearm in Ermita

An alleged member of “Bahala Na Gang” was arrested on Wednesday, May 7, following a robbery incident in Ermita, Manila.

Personnel of the Ermita Police Station PS-5, under the Manila Police District (MPD), apprehended John Francis Olaguer, 24, a resident of Isla Puting Bato in Tondo.

According to the initial investigation, the robbery took place at 6:25 a.m. at the corner of Nakpil Street and Taft Avenue, while the female victim was waiting for a bus.

Police said a man, later identified as Nelson Arcibal, walked near the victim.

When the victim attempted to call her sister out of fear, Arcibal suddenly grabbed her cellphone and fled the scene.

Olaguer, who was waiting nearby on a black Yamaha NMAX motorcycle, assisted in the getaway.

The two suspects sped off southbound along Taft Avenue.

The victim promptly reported the incident to the MPD Remedios Police Community Precinct.

A follow-up operation was immediately launched, resulting in Olaguer’s arrest at Isla Bungad in Tondo.
Police said Olaguer’s accomplice is still at large.

Authorities recovered the stolen phone, the getaway motorcycle, which had no OR/CR or driver’s license, and a .38-caliber revolver loaded with three live bullets.

The arrested suspect will be charged with robbery-snatching, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, and violation of the election gun ban.
