TNT eyes first streak in the conference vs Terrafirma

After scoring their breakthrough win against the San Miguel Beermen, the Tropang 5G look to keep the momentum going and notch their first win streak of the conference against the struggling Dyip in the contest that tips off at 5 p.m.

Also in a bind is Meralco which will also try to snap a three-game skid when it takes on NorthPort in the second game at 7:30 p.m.

As for what changed for TNT for it to finally win its first game after opening the conference with three losses, head coach Chot Reyes said it was simply about getting his players in the right frame of mind.

According to Reyes, TNT should find its identity in the absence of Jayson Castro and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.

“I think that simple realization worked wonders with the way the players played tonight, their effort and their fight. I just told the players, let's write our own story. Let's not write a story from the past or whatever.” said Reyes after TNT’s 89-84 win over SMB.

Calvin Oftana typified the effort for TNT to finally break out of its slump, posting a huge double-double of 23 points and career-high 21 rebounds to go with six assists.

“It's a step in the right direction. But our effort in the next few games is going to tell if we have started to turn that corner.But like I said, this is just the first step. We're happy, but we cannot be content with this,” he added.

Changing the direction of its conference is also something the Dyip want to achieve as well although they have to do it on the defensive end first after giving up over 100 points in their losses.

For one, the Dyip will be facing a championship-caliber team with renewed confidence and feature potent firepower in RR Pogoy, Rey Nambatac and Simon Encison and Kelly Williams.

Terrafirma, on the other hand, has Stanley Pringle to lean on as well as young guns Paolo Hernandez and Mark Nonoy to try to break out of its own slump.
