Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon effectively "saved" the livelihood of 14,000 motorcycle riders, Cagayan de Oro City 2nd district Rep. Rufus Rodriguez said on Tuesday, May 6.
“We, together with Abante Mindanao (ABAMIN Party-list), laud and thank Secretary Vince Dizon for stopping the enforcement of the order of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) against ride-hailing transportation network Move It,” Rodriguez said in a statement.
“This saves the livelihood of at least 3,000 owner-riders in our city and ensures the availability of LTFRB-accredited motorcycles as a means of transportation,” he said.
The regulatory agency has drastically reduced the rider limit of Move It, a subsidiary of Grab. It has also accused it of non-compliance with certain requirements.
According to Move It officials, up to 14,000 riders in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro City were affected by the LTFRB order.
Dizon issued his stay directive pending an evaluation of Move It’s motion for reconsideration.
Rodriguez urged the transportation network to comply with LTFRB’s requirements.
“Rules are intended to put things in order and prevent chaos. It is in the interest of every stakeholder - the rider and his customer - that the rules are followed,” he said.
The veteran solon from Mindanao also asked the LTFRB to go slow in limiting the ridership of such transportation networks as Move It and Grab.
He said LTFRB officials should bear in mind that people avail themselves of motorcycle service to avoid traffic and get to their destinations faster.
“So let us not deprive owner-riders of their livelihood and people of an alternative mode of transportation,” Rodriguez said.
