Person of interest named in unusual Makati Japanese resto heist
The Makati City Police has identified a person of interest in the bizarre robbery that took place at a Japanese restaurant on May 4, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin said on Tuesday, May 6.
A video of the incident became viral on social media. Two men wearing helmets entered the restaurant and declared a hold-up. One of the suspects was wearing the uniform of a motorcycle taxi company.
At gunpoint, the customers surrendered their valuables to the robber. But before exiting the restaurant, the suspects returned the stolen items except for a black wallet containing P25,000.
"Noong umalis po sila ay nagpaalam pa raw po 'yung mga gumawa nito at humingi pa ng dispensa, at sinabi 'sir, ma'am wala po kaming kinuha.' Kami po ay nagtataka kung ano ba ang motibo ng mga taong ito (Before leaving, the robbers said sorry for what they did saying 'Sir, ma'am, we have returned everything to you.' We are really baffled on what their motive is)," Aberin said in a radio interview.
Further investigation revealed that the motorcycle used by the robbers as their getaway vehicle did not match its registered plate number.
Police said the bike nor the robber wearing the motorcycle taxi's uniform may not be affiliated with the company.
No one was reported hurt during the robbery.
Authorities are still investigating the incident and a follow-up operation against those involved has been launched.
