CBCP offers prayers to quake victims

By Leslie Ann Aquino The head of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has offered prayers for the victims of the 6.1 magnitude earthquake that hit several parts of the country Monday.

(Photo by Noel CELIS / AFP / MANILA BULLETIN) “We pray that those injured and lost properties will be comforted,” Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles told CBCP News. “We also pray especially for the grieving people who have lost dear ones in the earthquake and we hope recovery and help would come to these people,” he added. The CBCP head also lauded those who went to rescue and helped those people in the damage areas. The Davao prelate reminded the faithful to always prepare for calamities which can strike anytime. “It is again a time to tell ourselves to prepare for such calamities which are difficult to predict like an earthquake. Let us continue to pray for ourselves and for the suffering people,” said Valles. Several dioceses also offered prayers for the earthquake victims such as the Diocese of Balanga in Bataan. “With our life’s uncertainty and recurrent dangers, be with us, stay with us, and keep us safe and secured all day long. With Your caring presence and with our ardent prayers, spare us from earthquakes,” read the prayer which was posted in schools and parishes. Monday’s earthquake which was felt in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon damaged several structures including churches. At least eight people were also killed when a supermarket in Porac, Pampanga collapsed.
