The 17-year-old Eldrew was beaming with pride as he watched his "kuya"  accept the 2025 PSA Athlete of the Year plum a few minutes after receiving a citation in the annual awarding ceremony

“The same award he has, that’s the one I wanted to achieve in the future too,” said Eldrew during the PSA Awards Night at Manila Hotel Monday evening, Jan. 27.

“To be an Athlete of the Year, it’s not just an award from school nor Metro Manila. That award is given to athletes who represent the country as a whole,” he added.

The Palarong Pambansa champion took home a special award in gymnastics after winning multiple local and international competitions alongside his younger sister Elaiza.

“I’m so proud of kuya Carlos, he deserved it and he became an inspiration to aspiring gymnasts like us,” said Eldrew.

For Carlos, Eldrew has what it takes to become one of the sport’s greatest if he continues to train tirelessly.

“He’s talented and there’s a big opportunity coming to him. And he just needs to focus on his goals in life. I’m happy for him,” said Carlos.

Eldrew is set for a busy calendar this 2025 as he joins the Asian Gymnastics Championships in Jecheon, South Korea in June before plunging into action in Junior World Artistic Gymnastics which will be held here in the country in July.
