Iconic Burnham Lake in Baguio City is opened to public after P150-M rehab

BAGUIO CITY – Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) Operating Officer Mark Lapid led the opening of the P150-million worth of rehabilitation of the famous Burnham Lake, which is the first highlight of the 117th Baguio Day celebration, this morning, September 1.
“Finally, it’s finished although there was a delay due to weather, but now it’s okay and we can start the rehabilitation of the children’s park and Rose Garden, so we can see the total rehabilitation of the entire Burnham Park. Apart from this, we also have a rehab on Session Road, which we will start after the Panagbenga celebration next year,” Lapid said.

“Burnham Park is the heart of Baguio, when I was a kid, I used to go here for sightseeing, boating, biking, so it is an honor that we were given a position in the government and we were able to help beautify it”
Mayor Benjamin Magalong said Burnham Lake and its surroundings have changed a lot. “The water is now clean because the lake was filled with rain, there is a walkway and there are new boats that will be placed here and coil and carp fish, to help with pollution.”
He said that boat riders will no longer have difficulty boarding the boat because there is a deck for safety and they will have insurance from P350 to pay and will be required to use a safety vest, because the lake is deeper now
He also said that the beauty of the lake now is that there is a pathway where you can jog in addition to the pathway that will be placed around Burnham Lake.
“The big issue in this project is funding, fortunately TIEZA is there to help us beautify the entire Burnham Park. Hopefully before the end of this year, the Children Park and Rose Garden will also be finished,” Magalong said.
According to Magalong, the beautification of our iconic Burnham Park, which is the main attraction in the Summer Capital, is a huge help for the city of Baguio.
Magalong also announced that there are other projects in the pipeline, the initial P500-million water sewer system of Burnham Park and the rehabilitation of Session Road from TIEZA funds.
Lapid was the guest honor and speaker at the Baguio Day celebration in recognition of his great contribution to the city’s tourism projects.
