Ex-DOF chief Sonny Dominguez joins Megaworld as lead independent director
Andrew Tan-led top township developer Megaworld Corp. beefs up its board of directors by tapping former Department of Finance (DOF) secretary Carlos “Sonny” G. Dominguez as lead independent director, bringing his extensive experience in business, finance, corporate leadership, and economic policy.
Dominguez brings more than four decades of experience across the public and private sectors, having held leadership positions in various industries, including banking, power, aviation, agriculture, mining, hospitality, real estate, and investments.
He served as DOF secretary from 2016 to 2022, when he led the agency through major economic and fiscal reforms, while also serving as former president Rodrigo Duterte’s chief economic manager.
Earlier in his public service career, Dominguez served as secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA) in the late 1980s, following his tenure as secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Before returning to government service, he held senior executive and board positions in several leading Philippine corporations.
His corporate leadership experience included serving as chairman and president of Philippine Airlines (PAL), as well as holding leadership roles in Philippine Associated Smelting and Refining Corp. (PASAR), BPI Agricultural Development Bank, and RCBC Capital Corp., among others.
Dominguez holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Master’s degree in Business Management from Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) and attended the Executive Management Program at Stanford University.
“We are honored to welcome Secretary Sonny Dominguez to Megaworld’s board of directors. Throughout his distinguished career, he has helped shape the country’s economic landscape through principled leadership in government, finance, and business,” said Megaworld Chairman Tan.
Tan added that, “His depth of experience and strategic perspective will be invaluable as the company enters its next chapter of growth.”
Dominguez’s appointment comes as Megaworld continues to expand its presence across key economic and tourism destinations in the Philippines, with its integrated urban townships serving as platforms for business growth, tourism, employment, and community development.
Megaworld said, “The addition of Dominguez to the board also reinforces Megaworld’s commitment to strong corporate governance, board diversity, and independent oversight as the company continues to pursue its long-term growth strategy.”
His appointment further reflects Megaworld’s commitment to ensuring a strong, experienced, and forward-looking board capable of providing strategic guidance as the company continues to grow and create greater value for its shareholders, stakeholders, and the communities it serves across the Philippines.
