Caregiver nabbed a week after hire for P100K ring theft

A caregiver hired just a week earlier was arrested for allegedly stealing a P100,000 gold ring from her 93‑year‑old employer in Barangay Culiat, Quezon City.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) identified the suspect as “Hana,” a resident of Gapan City, Nueva Ecija.
Police said the victim discovered that his gold ring was missing at around 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 30 while looking for his jewelry.
The suspect had been hired as the victim’s caregiver on Aug. 23 and reportedly had access to his room and office.
After discovering that the ring was missing, the victim tried to contact the caregiver but could no longer reach her.
His secretary also looked for the suspect but found that she had already left the premises.
A security guard told police that the caregiver left at around 2 p.m.
The incident was reported to the Holy Spirit Police Station (PS 14), prompting a follow-up operation.
Police found a gym receipt in the suspect’s belongings, giving them a lead to her whereabouts.
Operatives later located and arrested the suspect along Cedar Street in Barangay Fairview at around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 31.
Police said the missing P100,000 gold ring was recovered from the suspect.
The arrested suspect will face charges for qualified theft, authorities added.
