90-day license suspension for drivers in Marikina road rage

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) suspended the licenses of two drivers for 90 days after a road rage incident in Marikina City.

According to the LTO, the incident involved a jeepney and a private vehicle traveling along A. Bonifacio Road toward C-5.

A video circulating on social media showed the two vehicles traveling close to each other before the drivers and some passengers got out and got involved in a physical confrontation in the middle of the road.

Following the incident, the LTO issued show cause orders to the registered owners and drivers of both vehicles.

They were ordered to appear before the agency’s Intelligence and Investigation Division and submit sworn explanations.

The LTO said possible violations include reckless driving, obstruction of traffic, and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.

The drivers were also ordered to surrender their licenses, while the two vehicles were placed under alarm status pending the investigation.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao said violence and disorder on the road will not be tolerated, adding that those involved may face appropriate sanctions.

Ang mga sangkot sa insidenteng ito ay haharap sa kaukulang pananagutan (Anger is not a license to get out of a vehicle and engage in an argument or a fistfight in the middle of the road, especially when other motorists are put at risk. Those involved in this incident will be held accountable),” Lacanilao added.
