Teen rider hits 2 runners on car-free Ayala Avenue

Two runners were injured after they were hit by a motorcycle driven by a 17-year-old rider along Ayala Avenue during “Car-Free Sunday” in Makati City on Sunday, Aug. 30.

The incident occurred at around 9:20 a.m. in Barangay Bel-Air while the road was closed to motorists.
Makati City Police said the rider came from EDSA and was heading toward Paseo de Roxas when he entered the closed portion of Ayala Avenue.
The rider told police that he proceeded because he did not see any barrier blocking the route.
A video taken by Ron Torres, who was in the area said the motorcycle passed several runners before hitting the two victims.
The two individuals were running along the avenue when they were struck by the motorcycle.
One of the victims, 36, sustained a head wound that required stitches, while his 34-year-old companion also suffered a head injury.
Police said the two runners did not sustain any fractures.
The teenage rider, meanwhile, suffered injuries to his nose and knee.
All three were brought to a hospital and were reported to be in stable condition.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
The rider may face a complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple injuries.
Car-Free Sundays along Ayala Avenue are held every Sunday from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. to give runners, cyclists, families, and other members of the public space for recreational and wellness activities.
