Historical, mordern heroes honored in Zambo celebration of National Heroes Day

ZAMBOANGA CITY- Zamboanga city joined the nation in commemorating National Heroes’ Day through a program held at Plaza Rizal on Monday, August 31.
The program, which started with a flag raising ceremony, was participated in by officials and members of the security sector, government officials and personnel, Boy Scouts of the Philippines and academic institutions.
During the program, officials honored both historic and modern day heroes as both offer their lives in service to the public.
Mayor Khymer Olaso honored historical heroes and said that their heroism lives on through the modern heroes of today.
"The true meaning of heroism is the willingness to serve others without expecting anything in return. We must do more for our city and continue to rise above every challenge, "Olaso said.
Meanwhile, WestMinCom Deputy Commander BGen. Bayani Curaming, Deputy Commander for Internal Defense Operations said that heroism and courage from our national heroes continue to live on in the present time.
Curaming lauded active-duty members in the security sector and civil servants who risk personal comfort to serve the public.
"Let us show the nation that bravery born in August 1896 lives on in Zamboanga City," Curaming urged.
