First Gen secures renewable supply contract for Alliance Global facilities

Lopez-led First Gen Corp. signed a deal to supply over 25 megawatts of geothermal energy to facilities owned by billionaire Andrew Tan’s Alliance Global Group Inc. (AGI).
Under the agreement, First Gen will source the renewable power from its Bacon-Manito geothermal facilities in Albay and Sorsogon, the company said in a statement.
The supply will serve commercial, hospitality, and manufacturing properties operated by AGI in Metro Manila, Iloilo, and Laguna.
The deal supports Alliance Global's target to reach full carbon neutrality across its operations by 2035 by scaling up its reliance on renewable power. Electricity consumption accounts for a significant portion of conglomerate-wide emissions, making energy sourcing crucial to achieving corporate sustainability goals.
The supply contract covers major real estate assets managed by Alliance Global’s property division, Megaworld Corp. Properties transitioning to geothermal energy include township developments, the Venice Grand Canal Mall in Taguig City, and ArcoVia City in Pasig City. Other facilities in the portfolio switching to geothermal power include the Richmonde Hotel Tower-Iloilo, the Davao Finance Center, and Emperador Distillers Inc. plants located in Santa Rosa and Biñan, Laguna.
Geothermal power offers a reliable source of baseload electricity capable of running continuously without interruption, according to Carlo Vega, First Gen chief customer engagement officer. Shifting to geothermal energy allows major commercial users to hedge against operational risks while simultaneously cutting their overall carbon footprint.
Arnulfo Batac, Megaworld’s head of sustainability, stated that harnessing more renewable energy enables the company to lower greenhouse gas emissions without compromising overall service delivery or operational efficiency.
Alliance Global, established in 1993, operates core business holdings in real estate through Megaworld, integrated resort operations through Newport World Resorts, and beverage manufacturing via Emperador.
First Gen currently generates over 1,700 megawatts of total capacity across a nationwide portfolio comprising 31 geothermal, hydroelectric, solar, and wind assets. (Gabriell Christel Galang)
