BACOLOD CITY - A 43-year-old suspected drug personality was killed after allegedly resisting arrest by the police in a gun raid in Barangay Inolingan, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental on Sunday, August 30.
Police tried to enforce a search warrant issued by a Regional Trial Court in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental on August 20 for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition against the suspect named Reynan, following reports of alleged threat and illegal discharge of firearm in the area.
Police Major Ryan Villasario, Moises Padilla police chief, said the suspect fled his home towards a mountainous area after sensing the presence of policemen.
While escaping, he reportedly fired several shots towards the operating team, prompting the latter to return fire due to imminent threat, leading to a one minute armed encounter.
Villasario said that a 12-gauge shotgun, an ammunition, and a .45 caliber colt pistol were recovered.
Villasario said they previously subjected the suspect to a buy-bust operation but he managed to escape. He was classified as a street level individual.
The suspect, considered by police as armed and dangerous, reportedly threatened his customers in the alleged illegal drug trade, according to Villasario.
Villasario said that operatives did not expect that it would lead to a shootout, but they also have to defend themselves.
If there is a complaint related to the incident, Villasario said that police operatives are willing to face it.
