Jorge Araneta honored for a lifetime of shaping cities

Araneta Group chairman receives the Life Achievement Award at the 14th PropertyGuru Philippines Property Awards for his contributions to the country's evolving urban landscape

A meaningful career in shaping cities is reflected in the places that stand the test of time and the communities that grow around them. Jorge L. Araneta’s career reflects both, while introducing new approaches to how urban spaces are planned and experienced. His long-standing contribution was recognized with the Life Achievement Award at the 14th PropertyGuru Philippines Property Awards.
As chairman and CEO of the Araneta Group, Araneta has led the company through decades of growth across urban development, entertainment, sustainability, and community initiatives. Under his leadership, Araneta City expanded into a destination for commerce, culture, and entertainment, with projects such as Cyberpark Towers adding to the district. His work also includes the shift toward renewable energy and community programs through the J. Amado Araneta Foundation.
Accepting the award on his behalf was Rowell Recinto, senior management consultant of Araneta City, who highlighted several concepts that were ahead of their time. These included bringing entertainment and retail together, incorporating public transportation into development planning even before the MRT and LRT, and introducing new types of land use in Cubao.
Recinto also shared that Araneta wanted to share the recognition with the men and women of the Araneta Group, acknowledging their role in the company’s achievements. He then highlighted several ideas that have since become part of modern estate development.
“He has done this very quietly. Araneta is not the type who will go out and seek publicity, but I thought it was just fair that I mentioned a few of those pioneering planning concepts that seem to be part of everybody’s checklist in developing estates today,” Recinto said.
The Life Achievement Award adds another milestone to Araneta’s long career, recognizing contributions that have remained relevant as the industry continues to change. His work offers a lasting example of how new ideas can shape the future of urban development.
