1,415 remain in Parañaque evacuation centers as habagat continues

A total of 1,415 residents remained in evacuation centers in Parañaque City Sunday morning as persistent rains brought by the southwest monsoon, or habagat, continued to threaten flood-prone communities.
The City Social Welfare and Development Department said the figure was recorded at 7 a.m. Sunday, August 30, lower than the 1,906 evacuees recorded Saturday night, August 29, as heavy rains prompted residents in vulnerable areas to seek safer shelter.
Mayor Edwin Olivarez ordered city officials and barangay authorities to keep evacuation centers operational and remain on alert for possible flooding and additional rainfall.
The city government said 14 evacuation centers had been opened to accommodate residents affected by the weather disturbance, with seven facilities actively housing evacuees as of the latest count.
Evacuation centers were opened in several barangays, including BF Homes, San Antonio, San Dionisio, and San Isidro, as local authorities continued to monitor conditions in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Olivarez also urged residents to remain vigilant and follow instructions from barangay officials and disaster response teams, particularly those living in areas vulnerable to rising floodwaters.
