1,141 Manileños remain in evacuation centers amid habagat

A total of 367 families or 1,141 individuals are currently staying in active evacuation centers across Manila as the city continues to monitor communities affected by the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) reported Sunday, August 30.

The latest evacuation center status, as of 8 a.m. on Aug. 30, showed that evacuees are being housed in facilities across the city, including areas in Districts 3, 5, and 6, as well as Baseco.

The largest number of evacuees was recorded in District 6, where 171 families or 562 individuals were staying at various evacuation centers.

This included 157 families or 518 individuals from Barangays 602 and 601 who were staying at Don Bosco School.

Meanwhile, 150 families or 450 individuals from Blocks 1 Gasangan and 1 Aplaya were staying at the Baseco Evacuation Center.

Other active evacuation centers included the Barangay 326 Hall, with eight families or 23 individuals; Barangay 333 Hall, with three families or nine individuals; DWO V (Sagat, Bahay Kalinga), with 35 families or 97 individuals; Barangay 598, with seven families or 28 individuals; Barangay 607 Covered Court, with three families or seven individuals; Barangay 893 Barangay Hall, with four families or eight individuals; and Barangay 894 Multipurpose Hall, with one individual.

The MDSW said it has been assisting evacuees with hot meals, dinner, sleeping mats, and breakfast.

The city government continues to monitor the situation in affected communities and evacuation centers amid the effects of the Habagat.
