WEi's Yongha to enlist in military
Yoo Yongha, a member of K-pop boy band WEi, will enlist in the Korean military next month.
OUI Entertainment, WEi’s agency, said Yongha, 27, will fulfill his military service as an active-duty soldier starting Sept. 28.
“In accordance with the Military Manpower Administration's guidelines, Yoo Yongha will be enlisting as an active-duty soldier in the Army on September 28 to fulfill his military duty as a citizen of the Republic of Korea,” the agency said.
The agency reminded fans that there will be no separate ceremony for Yongha on his enlistment day and asked them not to visit the camp, as many soldiers and their families will also be in attendance.
On Aug. 25, the agency announced that Yongha and fellow WEi member Kim Dong-han’s exclusive contracts will end upon expiration.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to Kim Dong-han and Yoo Yong-ha for their dedication and hard work as artists under OUI Entertainment. We sincerely support the new activities and future endeavors that both of them will pursue,” it said.
In a letter to fans, Kim Dong-han said he will temporarily conclude his contract as an artist and take a leave of absence for his military service.
“From the moment I first joined OUI Entertainment to the time I spent with the WEi members, I created so many stages and memories together with the members. I know you may feel sad and worried, but I hope you won't worry too much,” he said.
Yongha also took to Instagram to thank the people who supported his career.
“And I would like to thank all the staff members who worked so hard to put me on stage and allow me to receive so much love. Lastly, to our six WEi members who became my family in an unfamiliar environment, thank you, I am sorry, and I love you for accepting me,” he said.
