Shanti Dope renews contract with Universal Records PH

Filipino rapper Shanti Dope has renewed his contract with Universal Records Philippines, extending a partnership that began when he was 16.

Shanti said he decided to stay with the label because it was the first to believe in him when he was starting his career.

“Nag-decide ako to still renew sa UR [Universal Records] since sila naman ang unang naniwala sa akin mula noong 16 years old ako,” he said.

Shanti signed with Universal Records Philippines at 16 and released his breakthrough EP “Materyal,” which included “Nadarang.” The song later appeared on Spotify Philippines’ Top 50 Viral Chart.

He has since released other hits, including “Amatz,” and established himself as one of the notable voices in Filipino hip-hop.

Universal Records Philippines Managing Director Kathleen Dy-Go said the label has seen Shanti develop from a young artist into an established hip-hop act.

“We’ve seen Shanti grow from a young artist with a powerful voice into one of the most distinct voices in Filipino hip-hop,” Dy-Go said.

Shanti’s management, Asintada Management and Production Inc., said it supports his decision to renew with the label.

The renewed partnership comes as Shanti prepares to release new music under Universal Records Philippines, with other projects also in development.
