'Habagat' rains drive 95 families into Parañaque shelters

The Parañaque City government has opened eight evacuation centers across five barangays to shelter residents forced to leave their homes as rains from the southwest monsoon (habagat) continue.

Mayor Edwin Olivarez directed city offices and barangay officials to remain on alert and ensure facilities are ready to accommodate evacuees.

As of the latest report, 95 families -- comprising 288 individuals -- have sought temporary shelter in four evacuation sites in Barangays San Antonio and San Isidro.

In San Antonio, 11 families (36 individuals) are staying at the barangay hall. In San Isidro, five families (14 individuals) are at Silverio Elementary School, while 70 families (199 individuals) are at the Santos Multipurpose Hall.

Another nine families (39 individuals) are housed at the Lopez Village Multipurpose Hall.

Olivarez urged residents to prioritize safety and coordinate with barangay officials if evacuation becomes necessary, especially as rainfall and flooding intensify.

He added that the remaining evacuation centers in the five identified barangays are on standby to receive additional residents should conditions worsen.

The local government also advised residents to stay vigilant, monitor official weather and emergency bulletins, and take precautions while the habagat continues to bring heavy rains.
